There was plenty to see on an afternoon two tank trip in Tavernier with Conch Republic Divers. Good dive conditions winds NE 7 kts, water temperature a toasty 86F, seas 1’ to flat.
Dive # 1 Little Conch Reef - Visibility 40-50 feet. We descended and swam along the ledge exploring the nooks and crannies. We were treated to seeing a large sea turtle leisurely swimming around the reef. We also saw some yellowtail snappers, trumpet fish, and a nurse shark taking a nap and spotted moray. A green moray swam was parked in his nest right by the boat anchor and we all had a turn to visit as we swam by. We leisurely worked our way back to the boat to wrap up an enjoyable relaxing dive.
Dive # 2 Location: Davy Crocker Reef - Visibility: 50 feet.
The usual welcoming committee of nurse sharks and green moray eels stayed home on this dive. Working our way out of the “aquarium bowl” we swam along the ledge, exploring the various nooks and crannies. Sightings included several queen angelfish, nurse shark, a green moray eel, and many other native reef fish and corals. After visiting a resident moray at the aquarium, we headed back to the boat. Another great trip with Captain Jay and crew.
